Mission:
The Invisible Hand
Location: Planetside
Timeline: MD004 - 1700
Daegan had made a few scans of the planet and found the perfect spot. Once he had a confirmation from Jules for the trip he spent the rest of his day requisitioning the shuttle, planning what they a few activities and then logged his location for the next day.
[MD004 - The Next Morning]
The shuttle lifted off and they departed the Thunderbird and headed towards the planet. Once they had entered the atmosphere his flight path skirted a mountain range. They flew towards a pair of snow covered peaks and as they passed between the mountain range opened to a wide valley. Several streams could be seen cutting their way down the walls of the valley to form a lake. Swing around the far side of the lake that spilled over into a waterfall and a series of rapids as the water continued on its way.
Returning back to the upper valley Baas landed the shuttle on a wide area of grass near the lake. Shutting things down he turned towards Jules. "Why don't you go check things out while I set up?"
"Sure," Jules said and headed down to the water because doing nothing in particular was a good thing on your day off. Dressed in well-worn hiking boots, dark green moisture wicking-leggings and a white sun hoodie, her long dark hair hanging loose, she found a nice patch of rock and sat down, legs straight before her, and just stared out over the water, lost in thought. Recent reports were disturbing to say the least and Starfleet Intelligence had been in touch about an undercover assignment she didn't particularly want to take. Schofield had reached out after an operative chose not to take a mission so it wasn't unexpected; she was good at it and they liked finding something they thought might entice her back.
After setting up camp he joined Jules on the outcropping, sitting down beside her. He looked out over the valley, the mountains on either side, the forested area on the other side of the lake climbing up hillside until it gave way to rock and snow covered peaks. "Enjoying the view? I should contact the colony administration and put in claim in for this area."
"Would be nice, wouldn't it," Jules said, her dark gaze taking in the lush vegetation along the still expanse of water, and sighed. "Having a place like this to retreat to ..." She turned toward Daegan, her mouth curving upwards just slightly. "Bet you didn't know I have always wanted to build a house with my own two hands."
Tilting his head towards her he raised an eyebrow. "That I didn't know." Taking in the surrounding area his mind went to work imagining, "This would be a hell of a spot. A dock over there for a boat. A good sized house right there just up the slope, several rooms, big porch of course looking across the lake at the mountain. Yeah I'm definitely putting in a claim."
"Make it a good size one," Jules said. "I like the idea of uninterrupted privacy." She was already laughing as the words came out of her mouth. "As if something like that's even possible with the way we live our lives."
He chuckled as well. "Under normal circumstance that'd be true, but with the know how of a security officer combined with an intel officer with field experience could definitely take this place off grid and protect it from any prying eyes."
Standing he intentionally changed the subject just to see if she would continue to look at the future. "But that can wait." He stripped down and took a run towards the water, leaping from the outcropping. He unceremonious hit the water sending up a good sized splash. Surfacing he gave his head a flip to keep the water and his hair out of his eyes.
She undressed slowly, revealing a backless, black one piece, and followed him, diving cleanly into the water but continuing on a few strokes underwater before surfacing farther out into the lake. Undercover work had left Jules with a motley collection of useless skills. One of them was being able to hold her breath for a longer than usual length of time, combined with the long training she'd had in coming up as noiselessly as possible (and hadn't that saved her once or twice), she broke surface smoothly a bit farther out than Daegan.
He had watched her as he treaded water, arching his brow as she undressed and watching her dive cleanly into the water. He followed her as she swam out and break the surface almost silently. Even here she finds a way to practice her skills. Using a gentle breaststroke he approached her, "Show off."
"Weird collection of little skills," she said as she tread water, "that come in handy under cover. Nothing like you though, Mr. big time security guy."
"Yep that's me...bust heads and ask questions later," sending a splash of water in her direction.
"You know you're more than that," Jules said as she turned her head. "Ooh, a waterfall ... come on ..."
He shook his head before swimming after her. Thinking to himself, ~what is it with women and waterfalls?~ As he reached her the water was shallow enough that he walked up behind her, wrapping his arms around her. "Nice huh?"
"It is," she said, leaning back against him. "When I was younger, I always imagined there were secret caves and treasure chests behind all those waterfalls I wasn't allowed anywhere near."
Swimming past her a bit as he turned, swimming backwards as he looked at her smiling. "Well let's check it out, see if there's anything behind there."
The water was more shallow at the base of the waterfall and she stood up, balancing precariously on the rock bed. She closed her eyes against the sudden wave of weakness that swept over her and turned toward Daegan. "Something's ... something's wrong ... I ..." Her eyes closed and she fell back into the water.
Daegan had lifted himself out of the water and was working his way towards the side of the fall. He never heard her over the roar of the falls, but saw her fall back into the water as he glanced to the side. Standing there he smiled, shaking his head as she seemingly played around. When she surfaced she was floating away with the water being pushed away from the fall and he shouted over to her. "I thought you want to..."
As he shouted he noticed the lack of movement as she bobbed with the water.
Exploding of the rocks he dove back in. Surfacing next to her he immediately flipping her over as he wrapped an arm around her and swam quickly to the shore. Hauling her out he immediately began checking her vitals.
After looking to the shuttle, that was on the other side of the lake, he immediately went to work. Giving her several chest compressions he then gave her two breaths. Her body reached instictively as she coughed up water and he rolled her on side as her body reacted.
He continued with another set of compressions. "Don't die die on me!"
Again he gave her a few breaths and a set of compressions to work his air into her.
Scooping her up he broke into a run to get her back to the shuttle. Sprinting over the broken ground he ran headless of the damage to his feet. Upon reaching the shuttle he laid her on the bench and spun to the cabinet behind him to get the med-kit there. Even as he broke open the kit he was issuing order to the shuttle computer. "Computer. Emergency departure and lay in a course back to the Thunderbird!"
Daegan steadied himself as the shuttle lifted off as he scanned her with the kits tricorder.
...shallow respiration.
...no heart beat.
He dug through the kit grabbing a hypo and a vial of cordrazine and a tri-ox compound to oxygenate her blood . After that slapped a cardio-stimulator on her chest to keep her heart beating. Even with the stimulator and the stimulant, her blood pressure was still very low. He forced himself to leave her side as he jumped into the pilots seat, leaving blood foot prints behind him.
Taking the controls from the computer he increased speed to full impulse as he hailed the Thunderbird. "Shuttle Iroquois to Thunderbird, Medical emergency, Lieutenant Raihan is down, cause unknown."
