1,427 words; about a 7 minute read

Mission: Friends and Traitors
Location: Captain's Ready Room | Deck 1 | USS Thunderbird
Timeline: MD002 - 0930

Erik reviewed reports, something he did at the start of every shift, from a comfortable spot on the raised dais; his ready room was broken into two parts -- desk with seating and credenza across from the entry point and two steps on the right that led to where sat a sofa because loveseats just didn't fit him and an oversized solo chair he used when others were present. On one end of the dais was a replicator combined with a small coffee station. The surface of the coffee table was covered as it often was with the detritus of his mornings, a scattering of PADDs, a mug with the ship's logo emblazoned on the side, filled with coffee, and a lucite cube mounted on a pointed edge that contained an assortment of metals. Over his first mug, he had read through the reports from Beta and Gamma Shifts and now, into his second, was working on reports that had come in from outside the ship.

First a pressing of the chime, before she entered the ready room, the door opening with a quiet shoosh. She took in the condition of Erik's desk giving a quiet chuckle. "A familiar sight and condition of your desk." giving a teasing smile. "Good morning, Erik." Tatiana greeted him, stepping further into the room.

"Morning," Erik said, his gaze glancing from the coffee table where he was working to his desk which was, in point of fact, in about the same condition though the mug generally went where he was. "There's fresh coffee in the pot or you can replicate something for yourself."

"I'll take some coffee." Tatiana responded as she went to pour herself a cup. "Thank you." she sat down in one of the chairs sipping at her coffee, as she regarded Erik. Her mind was also thinking over the past events as to when she first came onboard. "How was your shore leave?" Tatiana deciding to ask.

"Working holiday," Erik said, "so, you know, the usual. How about yours?"

"It was a working holiday as well, business as usual for the two of us. Apparently there had been rumors of my demise going around the station. A few got spooked, as they had bragged that they were the cause of my death." Tatiana giving a bit of a chuckle.

"Just what were you doing when you last here," Erik asked as his expression turned curious, "that people were happy to see you dead."

With a small smile, Tatiana replied, "One is a woman, who had been kept from entrapping a Starfleet officer, and trying to blackmail him. The second, he was caught double dealing during a diplomatic trade, almost ending negotiations. The last one was, my catching a person, cheating in a card game, they tried to waylay me. With... no success. They got the worse end of the deal. though if they were asked, they were the victor. I had disappeared after that, being assigned to a listening post."

"And yet, all of these people remain on the starbase," Erik asked. "Dornhoeffer is really off his game if he hasn't found a way to get them off yet."

Tatiana gave s slight shrug. "They may have found a way around to slither back onto the station. I personally would have liked to have gotten them tossed out and restricted. Who is to say."

"Might be worth passing the word to Station Security," Erik said. "In case these people some how slipped through the cracks."

"I have done so. He wasn't happy to find out about these individuals, coming back onboard. " Tatiana replied. "Being out here, and someone greasing someone's palms with the right amount of credits or even being in a disguise people can slip in and out. Such is the life of being on a large station such 310"

Once Areum Choi approached the doorway to the Captain's Ready Room, she could hear voices, but was unable to ascertain what they were discussing. Not one to intrude mid-conversation, she waited for a pause before pressing the chime to alert Captain Norsgaard and the other occupant of her arrival. When she received approval, Lieutenant Commander Choi stepped forward and crossed the threshold into the Captain's Ready Room. "Captain, Lieutenant," Aerum said, addressing them both.

"Sir, I have been catching up on reports that Lieutenant Commander Knox had not signed off on before his departure. I guess he wanted to leave me a welcoming present. Typically, a nice new desk or an ergonomic chair would suffice, but needless to say, I am caught up on the administrative side of things."

"Glad to hear it." Erik sighed quietly. "Though not entirely unexpected, I'm afraid. Please, have a seat. Lieutenant Dragos had something she wanted to discuss with us."

"Nor I," replied Lieutenant Commander Choi. She had been studying Lieutenant Commander Knox more these days; she had not met the man, but moving into the same spaces he had and gaining access to his official logs were a bit more illuminating. Perhaps too illuminating. "Lieutenant, I am sure what you have to say is a lot more enthralling than the reports I have been going through. Please, proceed."

"Ah yes I do have someone who can help us track down what is happening with the Maquis his name is Tybiass Th'rhyhris, though for some reason he has insisted that I call him 'Bob'. I tried to get him to go by Tobias but he said he'd rather be called Bob."

Tatiana shook her head. "Sorry, too much information as to that story. Now, he wants me to rendezvous with him, in the Glacier Basin Cafe, Sable point on Keshara IV. Its an out of the way place where miners, surveyors and maintenance crews frequent."

"If you trust your source, then it's a good idea for you to meet with him. How far is it ... and more importantly, how safe is Keshara IV," Erik asked. "Will you need to bring back up?"

Lieutenant Commander Choi looked at Captain Norsgaard, and then at Tatiana. "The Captain raises the same point I have. Safety. Out in the middle of nowhere as you described it, I would encourage back up in some capacity."

"I wouldn't mind taking someone with me, two pairs of eyes are better than one pair. I do ask is there a recommendation, for who to take. There are two I could possibly request and that is Caitlyn MacRae or..." Tatiana paused, "Or my assistant chief Lieutenant Julianna Ralhan. This not only will give me a chance to work with her, but also get to know her. I am, open to any other recommendations. as you do know more about the crew than I do."

"Both are good in the field and both have done extensive work undercover," Erik said. "I would say that the choice is yours. Both could do the job and do it well."

Areum smiled slightly. "I like to trust my people. Weigh your options and what their merits are, and go with who you believe would be most effective and compensates for where you have personal... deficits." She never liked saying weaknesses, but deficits, seemed a respectable replacement for the point she was trying to get across.

Norsgaard's expression turned thoughtful at the remark but he said nothing, only waited to heard Tatiana's answer.

"Alright i will get someone to go with me and find out the details. Wish me luck on that." Tatiana giving a smile.

"Then you're both dismissed," Norsgaard said. "And be safe out there. The information is important but not at the cost of a life."

Tatiana rose from her chair, she wanted to make certain this was successful, not only for saving lives but also she didn't want to fail, Erik. Not only her captain but also her friend.

"See you around," she stated and left the ready room.

Outside of the office, Tatiana placed a hand over her chest, to calm her rapidly beating heart it is something that happens before she goes on a mission, just the anticipation, some worry, and then there was the determination to succeed.

Areum remained in the Captain's Ready Room. "Part of me wanted to accompany her," replied the First Officer. She looked at Captain Norsgaard. "I know that I need to give the crew breathing room. She's a competent officer. If you need anything, you know where to find me."
